It’s all good until somebody dies!
New York Post reports two electronic music fans overdosed and died at a Randall’s Island festival, prompting event organizers today to cancel remaining concerts.Jeffrey Russ, 23, and Olivia Rotondo, 20, both died from taking ecstasy at the Electric Zoo music festival, law enforcement sources said. Four other concertgoers were hospitalized and listed in critical condition."The founders of Electric Zoo send our deepest condolences to the families of the two people who passed away this weekend," organizers said."Because there is nothing more important to us than our patrons, we have decided in consultation with the New York City Parks Department that there will be no show today."Russ, a Rochester native and recent Syracuse University grad, was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital at 3 a.m. today, while Rotondo of North Providence, RI, passed away at 10:45 p.m. yesterday at Metropolitan Hospital, officials said.The festival began Friday and had been scheduled to continue through today.“The Electric Zoo organizers have worked with City officials to reduce health risks at this event, but in view of these occurrences, the safest course is to cancel the remaining day of the event,” according to a statement released by the Bloomberg administration.
