Poll: Bill de Blasio opens bigger lead over Openly Gay Chrisitine Quinn in NYC Democrat primary, might avoid runoff

The ultra progressive,  de Blasio, who wants to tax the heck out of the rich has increased his margin of the vote over another wacky progressive, Quinn, who promised New Yorkers bigger and stronger condoms. 

Politicker  reports if there was any question that Bill de Blasio is the mayoral race’s new front-runner, there isn’t any more.



A new poll conducted by Quinnipiac University has the city’s public advocate with 36 percent of the likely Democratic vote, placing him within reaching distance of avoiding a widely-expected runoff election.

The two other leading Democratic candidates, Council Speaker Christine Quinn and former Comptroller Bill Thompson, posted 21 and 20 percent respectively. Former Congressman Anthony Weiner earned just 8 percent, while current Comptroller John Liu trailed with 6 percent.

“Talk about breaking out of the pack!” pollster Maurice Carroll said in a statement acknowledging Mr. de Blasio’s quick rise. “Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, in fourth place just five weeks ago, is edging up on the magic 40 percent needed to avoid a Democratic primary runoff. And if there is a runoff, he clobbers Council Speaker Christine Quinn or former Comptroller and 2009 Democratic challenger William Thompson.”

If the numbers mirror the candidates’ internal polling, they help explain the increasingly negative tone of the race, which has featured frequent shots at Mr. de Blasio in recent weeks.

There isn’t a dimes worth of difference between de Blasio and Quinn.  Both would return New York back to the bad old days of David Dinkins when murders were 2,600 a year.  New Yorkers will reject that.

GOP mayoral hopefuls vigorously defend NYPD at debate, Joe Lhota shines

Joe Lhota demonstrated last night why he should be hands down the next mayor of New York.  He was poised and knowledgeable while the other two candidates  George McDonald and John Catsimatidis, although earnest, are far short in being able to handle governing New York. 

New York Post reports the Republican mayoral contenders vigorously defended the NYPD at their debate last night — with John Catsimatidis implying that if his son were ever stopped and frisked, it would be his own fault.

“I would say, ‘Well what did you do to provoke it?’ I would say to him, ‘Were you dressed funny? Were you walking funny? Look funny?’ ” Catsimatidis said when asked how he would respond if cops stopped his college-age son, John.

His opponents, Joe Lhota and George McDonald, also supported the police, amid a news report yesterday that the NYPD has labeled mosques terrorism organizations and uses informants to spy on imams.

Catsimatidis also revealed he has diabetes, when asked if he would release his medical records and disclose the prescription drugs he takes.

He and Lhota said they would release those records, while McDonald simply said a recent physical showed him in good health.

In one of the lighter moments of the debate — which included questions on chemical warfare and a fight over multiplication — the candidates were asked about City Council Speaker Christine Quinn’s plan to distribute stronger city-funded condoms.

“I think we should buy the strongest condoms we can get,” Catsimatidis said.

Lhota blasted Quinn for “pandering,” while McDonald said he would support condoms being made in New York City.
