Miami Herald reports a Broward teacher accused of sending more than 100 sexually explicit emails to a 14-year-old student was released from jail Saturday morning.Warren Zilka, 42, an eighth grade teacher at Imagine Charter School at Broward turned himself in to the Coral Springs Police Department Friday afternoon.Police learned about the inappropriate exchanges when the victim told investigators about Zilka's emails Monday. Their correspondence went as far back as May 2013, police said.The "explicit and disgusting" messages were sent from a school-issued computer, said Carla Kmiotek, a police spokeswoman.Zilka faces two felony charges of transmitting material harmful to a minor and unlawful transmission of obscene material. He was released on $3,500 bail at 2 a.m. Saturday, according Broward County’s Central Intake Bureau.CBS4 reported that the charter school's principal, Linda H. Arnold released a statement that reads, in part: “We are extremely disappointed to hear of Mr. Zilka’s arrest and will continue to work cooperatively as we have been doing with the Coral Springs Police Department. Although we are a public charter school, we follow all of the statutes of the State of Florida and required background checks. At this time, our main concern is to continue to provide a safe and secure environment.”More here
