Orioles star Jones says Giants fan threw banana at him

Who said San Franciscans have any class?

New York Post reports Orioles outfielder Adam Jones had a big game Sunday with a home run and four RBIs in a 10-2 win over the Giants, but it was another incident that had him talking and tweeting after the game.

Jones, an African American, said a fan threw a banana towards him in the bottom of the ninth inning, minutes after he had hit a three-run home run. The game took place in San Francisco, and the Giants said they hadn't heard about the incident but will review security tapes on Monda

Jones, a three time All-Star, is having an MVP season for the Orioles with 24 home runs, 85 RBIs and a .332 batting average. Baltimore is 1 1/2 games behind the final wild card spot in the American League.

Yer Out! MLB tells union A-Rod deal is off the table expected to be suspended until 2015

Unfortunately the sage of Arod has been going on for much too long.  MLB should have acted weeks ago to put an end to this cat and mouse soap opera.    

New York Post-Alex Rodriguez struck out even before he got on the field Saturday.

Sources told The Post that Players Association executive director Michael Weiner reached out to Major League Baseball Saturday to discuss a possible settlement in the Biogenesis investigation and baseball told them that was no longer on the table.

Without a settlement, baseball is expected to suspend Rodriguez for the rest of this season and all of 2014, although commissioner Bud Selig still could look to pursue a lifetime ban.

On Saturday, Rodriguez’s camp refused comment.

Rodriguez has infuriated MLB and the Yankees throughout the Biogenesis investigation and did so again after Friday night’s game in Trenton, when he all but accused the league and the Yankees with conspiring against him to void the remainder of his contract.

In MLB’s eyes, Rodriguez has had more than enough time to cooperate with the investigation, and the league wasn’t interested in reopening discussions now that the expected deadline for suspensions is so close.

The third baseman and his camp also are believed to have contacted the Yankees on Saturday about the possibility of working out a deal on the remainder of his contract, which runs through 2017 and still is worth nearly $100 million. They were rejected on that front, as well.

Zack Wheeler leads surging Mets to sweep of slumping Giants

The Mets are on a roll winning 16 of their last 25 games!

Daniel Murphy and John Buck each had two hits and drove in two runs as the Mets won their fourth in a row, including three straight over the slumping World Series champions. The Giants have lost 16 of 19 according to USA Today.

Wheeler (3-1), selected by the Giants with the sixth overall pick in the 2009 amateur draft, took a shutout into the seventh. He allowed one run and three hits, struck out five and walked three.

"That's the best all-around stuff I've seen," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "He pounded the strike zone and got outs. He has a chance to be very good."

San Francisco dealt Wheeler to the Mets in July 2011 for outfielder Carlos Beltran. The trip to San Francisco brought back memories from his time with the Giants.

"Romo and me would talk all the time," Wheeler said. "He'd sit me down and talk me through things. It was fun to be able to watch him pitch the first night."

Matt Cain (5-6) lasted less than an inning for the first time in his career, giving up three runs and two hits while walking three and getting just two outs. He is 0-3 with a 6.38 ERA in his last five starts.

"We needed a chance to win it, and I wasn't giving them an opportunity right there," Cain said. "I was walking guys. They got a couple of hits they needed, and that was it."

San Francisco dropped to 40-50, its first time 10 games under .500 since the Giants finished 72-90 in 2008, according to STATS. San Francisco was swept at home for the first time since July 27-29 last year against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Wheeler retired 14 of his first 16 hitters before Pablo Sandoval singled for the Giants' first hit with two outs in the fourth. Wheeler also hit an RBI double.
