I’ve been saying for the past few months that the GOP is maneuvering itself to be a Pro abortion and Pro gay marriage party. Here’s the latest indicator 0f it coming true.
The attorney and former George W. Bush administration official who helped defeat California’s ban on gay marriage said the Republican Party is moving toward embracing the right of same-sex couples to wed according to The Hill.
“Republicans are changing. Democrats are changing. I think the day is going to come, maybe within just a few years, when the Republican Party, just like the Democratic Party and all Americans believe in equal treatment for all of our citizens,” said Theodore Olson on the CBS program “Face The Nation.”
Olson, who was solicitor general under Bush, and attorney David Boies successfully fought Proposition 8, the California ballot referendum that prevented gay marriage, in court.
While more individual GOP lawmakers have been endorsing same-sex marriage, it is not the mainstream view in the party and several top Republicans -- including Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) -- expressed disappointment at last week’s Supreme Court rulings.
